Abstract:
Color air photos of the Yellowstone River floodplain between Glendive and Fairview, Montana. The images are mosaics of orthorectified photos were taken on October 28, 1977. The horizontal resolution of the photos is 1 meter.
Purpose:
These images were created for the Yellowstone River Conservation Districts Council, to support understanding of the Yellowstone River floodplain, including hydraulic floodplain delineation, planimetric data extraction, and as a base map for monitoring long-term river channel changes.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report:
The images were rectified to match features shown on USGS orthophoto mosaics. The horizontal accuarcy is probably roughly comparable to that of a 1:12,000 scale map, or about 6 meters (20 feet).

The photography was flown at an altitude of 6,000 feet above mean terrain. The camera was a 6" focal length Wild RC-10.

Process step:
The film was scanned with a Leica DSW500 aerial film scanner at a resolution of 80 microns, or 318 dots per inch, resulting in an approximate ground resolution of approximately 38 inches.

The scanned images were mosaiced using Socet Set software, using USGS orthophoto mosaics and DEMs to rectify the images.
