Abstract:

This is an index for the Montana 2005/2006 Color Infrared digital orthophoto collection. The imagery data set consists of 3,977 false color infrared (IR) digital orthorectified photo images of Montana. Each image covers an area of 100 square kilometers (39 square miles) and is approximately 286 megabytes in size. The majority of images were acquired in summer 2005 and the remainder were acquired during summer 2006.

This index layer shows the area covered by each individual image and has fields for the image file name, image year (2005 or 2006), and the folder name containing the image in the external drive the data are stored on at the State Library. In some cases, the image year field says 2006, but the image file contains 2005 as part of its name. There is a field called Oops that has a 1 in it to indicate these images.

The 2005 aerial photos were collected coincidently with the natural color NAIP images acquired by the Farm Services Agency in support of planning and delivery of USDA programs. The original digital images were then processed to an IR product with a 1 meter ground sample distance (GSD) and rectified to National Mapping Standards at the 1:24,000 scale. The dates of the 2005 images are given in an index layer available at ftp://ftp.geoinfo.msl.mt.gov/Data/Spatial/MSDI/Imagery/2005_NAIP/naip_2005_color_dates.zip. The photo dates of the 2006 images are unknown.
